University of Virginia Laboratory Technician 2 in Charlottesville, Virginia

The Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research Center at the University of Virginia is currently seeking a Laboratory Technician 2 with a background in general to advanced lab organization and procedures. Duties include but are not limited to: organizing and ordering of common supplies for the lab; tracking and resolving issues with purchase orders an invoices; oversight of biohazard waste accumulation and pick up; involvement in lab inspections and other regulatory compliance-related issues; responsible for equipment maintenance and service; organizing and evaluating data; cleaning of glassware: preparation of buffers and of DNA from patient specimens; histological staining of mouse tissues; PCR analysis of RNA transcripts in biological samples; and occasional work in the mouse room (weaning and genotyping).

Qualified applicants must have an Associate's Degree or higher, and a minimum of two years' experience (may include student experience) demonstrating general wet lab techniques. A Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering or Cell/Molecular Biology is preferred, and may substitute for required experience.

This position is restricted and contingent on funding. Currently funding exists for approximately one year.
