BAE Systems UNIX Systems Administrator in Charlotte, North Carolina

Job Description

Become part of a team that supports a large Enterprise with its critical UNIX Server environment. We utilize multiple technologies to deliver services, including Virtualization, Cloud, Engineered Systems.

This position is a Tier 3 UNIX support position. The position requires someone who can handle the design of enterprise level solutions and address problem resolution in a large enterprise environment. Activities will include systems design and maintenance, system alert response and communication with users and other technical staff to provide timely resolution in a dynamic environment.

Systems Engineering Activities Research and identify new solutions technologies that will help meet the goals of System Maintenance Activities

Work closely with remote team members to ensure proper monitoring/support. Work incidents and service requests submitted through a ticketing system. Interact with level 2 support, and also other teams to meet customer requests and deadlines.

Troubleshooting advanced technical problems to identify root cause and solutions to the problem

is required.

Familiarity with Solaris and Linux, preferably Red Hat and/or Oracle Enterprise Linux.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Hands on experience on O/S Red Hat Enterprise Linux System Administration (5/6/7/8) and Solaris (9-11)

  • Experience in O/S installation, Software and Patch management

  • Able to debug/troubleshoot hardware issues

  • Must have knowledge on architectural concept regarding console servers for Linux or Solaris (SPARC)

  • Familiar with the configuration and maintenance of server and network hardware and peripherals

  • Hands-on experience of system management, system setup and managing Linux or Solaris based servers as well as configuring them

  • Able to develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures

  • Install and configure systems which support infrastructure, hardware

  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs etc.

  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage resources.

  • Six or more years of experience as a UNIX system administrator managing servers in an enterprise environment consisting of 2,000 or more servers

  • Experience installing, configuring and updating RHEL, Solaris

  • Experience maintaining UNIX and/or puppet automation

  • Experience with VMware virtual servers and SPARC hardware preferred

  • Configuring and implementing LDOM s and Zones pertaining to Solaris

  • Writing technical documentation skills including standards, policies and procedures

  • Able to troubleshoot complex issues with hardware and software

  • Able to work independently or with minimal supervision

  • Experience with different types of SAN storage (EMC, Isilon)

  • ExaData and Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) experience preferred, but not required

  • Training or certifications in one or more of the following: Solaris, VMware, RedHat Linux

  • Candidate should have strong verbal and written communication skills and be a self starter.
