VMware Staff Engineer - Tanzu Kubernetes Grid Service (Remote) in Charlotte, North Carolina

The Tanzu Kubernetes Grid Service (aka Guest Clusters), a critical element of the VMware Tanzu portfolio, is seeking a Staff Engineer to help advance our mission of making vSphere the best place to run Kubernetes. This team is focused on building Cluster and Infrastructure Lifecycle Management capabilities to deliver a Kubernetes as a service offering and enabling customers to run general-purpose Kubernetes workloads in a fully upstream compliant Kubernetes.
What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?
We need someone to handle level five engineering challenges in designing, implementing and improving our in-cluster services including networking, storage, authorization integrations such as supporting ReadWriteMany persistent volumes, adding third party Kubernetes CSI drivers, vm storage usage rollups to Kubernetes storage quota, supporting identity providers other than vSphere, supporting multiple CNIs.

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
Design and Implement Kubernetes operators to drive Cluster lifecycle management
Drive Guest Clusters integrations with Tanzu Mission Control and Tanzu Kuberneters Grid platform
Participate in the upstream Cluster API community to represent Guest Cluster
Work with Tanzu Portfolio products Product Management and Architects to technically drive guest clusters forward
What is leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?
The hiring manager for this role is Kiran Patchigolla, Sr Engineering Manager in MAPBU. Kiran joined VMWare about a year ago. Prior to this role, Kiran has spent 6 years in startups working on data platforms and more than a decade building enterprise performance management & analytics products at Oracle. Kiran leads a collaborative Guest Clusters team which consists of engineers, tech leads and managers from multiple business units with a shared passion of making it easy for application developers to adopt Kubernetes.
