Job Title: Quality Lab Manager

Position Type: Full Time

Reporting Lines: Reports to Director of Manufacturing

As a Quality Manager you will be responsible for managing QC Lab Technicians, leading them to work safely, accurately, and efficiently with a focus on teamwork throughout the organization. You will have chief responsibility over lab procedures, policies, methods, and instrumentation as well as raw material, manufacturing, and product specifications. You will serve as the lead investigator for quality non-conformances (QNC). You will be directly responsible for maintaining laboratory and sampling compliance in accordance with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System NPDES permit. You will become a subject matter expert on plant chemistries, both process and analytical. You will directly assist Operations and Maintenance in quality, analytical, and chemistry related issues. You will support the statistical process control (SPC) program. Your priorities will change daily as we are in a fast-paced environment with ever changing dynamics and complexities.

Principle Duties:

• Leadership

o Lead four to five Lab Technicians that belong to a collective bargaining unit.

o Manage employee safety performance through continual engagement with employees as well as by demonstrating a personal dedication to working safely.

o Continually develop Lab Technicians in their abilities and understanding, with career goals in mind.

o Understand and manage the execution of NPDES sampling and analysis requirements.

o Maintain lab certification status with WV Department of Environmental Protection.

o Build an understand of analytical methods and technologies including both the theory of operation and how they functionally operate.

o Accountable for the development and execution of calibration/maintenance/troubleshooting procedures for analytical equipment.

o You will become a member of the emergency response team.

• Technical (quality non performance)

o Perform root cause investigations of QNCs and develop corrective action plans.

o Accountable for the development and execution of calibration/maintenance/troubleshooting procedures for analytical equipment.

o Maintain all quality specifications including reviews and revisions.

o Facilitate the approval of new raw material suppliers by working with multiple departments, seeking to assure the minimization of risk to safety and product quality.

o Prepare product samples for shipment to potential/existing customers.

o Become the Business Process Owner of the Quality Management module of SAP system.

o Support the SPC program by finding ways to bring lab representation into weekly discussions.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, or closely related discipline.

• Minimum of 5 years of quality control laboratory experience, in direct support of a chemical manufacturing unit, with a minimum of 2 years supervisory experience.

• Experience troubleshooting and repairing laboratory instrumentation, including GC’s, auto-titrators, and AA spectrometers.

• Must work well under pressure and be able to multi-task in a dynamic business environment with strict deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience with managing individuals who belong to a collective bargaining unit.

• Demonstrated leadership abilities with a strong ability to positively influence others.

• Prior experience and knowledge of Statistical Process Control methods and tools.
