The Accountant is responsible for maintaining the general ledger for UTCLD for the purpose of ensuring adequate accounting records exist for the company. Additionally, this position is responsible for the preparation of various monthly reporting, managing miscellaneous receivables and billing entries, and performing various month-end closing procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties include the following, but other duties may be assigned as required.
Maintains the general ledger and accounting journals for UTCLD as well as various accounting journals for all companies.
Records monthly closing entries for UTCLD, including monthly tax estimate.
Records monthly journal entries for prepaids and accrued liabilities for UTC. Adds new items to the recurring entry as needed.
Maintains miscellaneous accounts receivable records. Invoices customers for leases, aid to construction, etc. on a monthly basis. Follows up on uncollected miscellaneous receivables accounts and sends follow up bills as necessary. Reviews uncollectible accounts for write-off on a periodic basis.
Responsible for processing customer payments from bank draft and ACH payments.
Prepares GL coding for all employee credit card accounts and enters bills to be paid monthly.
Performs timely monthly bank reconciliations for all bank accounts.
Prepares monthly sales tax reports for UTC and UTCLD. Reconciles sales tax payable accounts monthly.
Prepares yearly unclaimed property filing to the state of Tennessee.
JOB QUALIFICATION AND REQUIREMENTS:
Education, Experience, Skills, and Licenses/Certificates:
BS or BA degree from a 4-year college or university, with major in Accounting or Business-related field and relevant work experience of 1+ years required.
PC Skills – requires an advanced understanding of accounting software, with advanced word processing and email skills, along with the ability to review and analyze reports in company systems. Must be proficient using Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to touch-type at 40+ WPM and use a 10-key required.

Must have an understanding of process standardization procedures and the ability to create and maintain written documentation.
Ability to operate office equipment, including personal computers, phone systems, and software applications. Specifically, maintain advanced knowledge of Financials platform within Innovative Systems.
Knowledge of intermediate level mathematics required, including the ability to add, subtract, and balance a balance sheet.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
