Utah State University 4-H Mentoring and Afterschool Assistant Site Coordinators- Middle/Elementary Schools in Cedar City, Utah
The Iron County Office of Utah State University Extension seeks qualified individuals to play a supportive role in coordinating the Youth and Families with Promise 4-H After-school/ Mentoring program in either a local elementary (grades 4-5) or middle school (grades 6-8). Duties include assisting program coordinator in carrying out mentoring, academic assistance, life skills development, 4-H and service projects. This is a part-time position without benefits. Subject to criminal background check. Length of position dependent on future funding.
This position will assist the Site Coordinator in carrying out the following assignments:
Recruit, screen, train, and support young adults to mentor youth in grades 7-8 participating in the 4-H Mentoring After-school program.
Recruit, screen, manage, and orientate youth to participate in the program.
Work with school officials to obtain parental consent for youth to enroll.
Match mentors to youth (and families) with assistance from County Extension Agent and other resource persons associated with the program.
Coordinate academic support and 4-H skill development among youth participants.
Manage data collection related participants and submit quarterly reports.
Teach weekly lesson to youth participants
Communicate regularly with the County Agent and Program Coordinator as to the progress and needs of the program.
Provide supervision to mentors and assist them with working with the youth and their families.
Serve as an advocate for the youth and their families in the program.
Serve as an ambassador for the program.
Work closely with USU County Extension Agent, county 4-H YFP Advisory Board, School personnel, volunteer mentors, youth and their families.
Must have effective communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent organizational skills
Basic computer skills- Word, Excel and Internet
Experience working and/or desire to work with youth at risk and their families
Access to reliable transportation
Must be available for all hours of program operation
Background in Education-related field
Experience working with youth and/or families
Prior experience working with mentoring programs
Evidence of teamwork capabilities
4-H experience, Spanish language skills
