Westrock Company Safety Manager in Calgary, Alberta

Safety Manager

The Opportunity:

Safety Manager at a growing company with opportunities to advance and learn alongside accomplished leaders in the Corrugated Packaging industry. Our goal is to grow and inspire future leaders for the Calgary facility and ultimately for WestRock.

Reporting to the Business Unit General Manager, the Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing all areas of safety excellence initiatives for the plant. This includes compliance with OSHA regulations and the development and execution of safety programs. This role is also responsible for conducting and scheduling training programs and ensuring company policies and guidelines are adhered to.

How You Will Impact WestRock:

  • Provide safety training to supervisors and employee groups to establish clear procedures on safety measures and precautions

  • Prepare reports on lost-time accidents

  • Oversees environmental permit application/enforcement/implementation and training

  • Support WCB claims management

  • Participate in Certificate of Recognition (COR)

  • Conduct Risk Assessments

  • Record and oversee data management for safety related documentation (e.g., loss time incidents)

  • Participate in incident investigations

  • Coach employees to meet the safety, quality, production, and all other key performance indicators of a fast-paced work team

  • Enforce plant safety regulations and encourage employees to become safety conscious

  • Create a safe and actively engaged environment that unlocks the potential of all our employees

What you Need to Succeed:

  • Relevant education in the health and safety field; College/University degree is an asset

  • 3-5 years of Safety Management Experience

  • Industrial Manufacturing experience preferred

  • CRSP and OH&S Certificate preferred

  • First aid and related training

  • Working knowledge of OH&S standards

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written, coupled with an ability to develop and sustain cooperative working relationships

  • A team player with an understanding of how to develop leadership in others

  • Proven skill set in the identification, analysis and resolution of issues and challenges and an ability to take decisive action.

  • Intermediate to advance skills in Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office programs

  • Able to travel to the US for training purposes as required

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload
