Posting Summary

Develop and oversee fire prevention and life safety programs, including fire alarm and suppression system commissioning, code consultation, safety education, evacuation drills, emergency preparedness. Perform inspections, and pre-fire planning. Support the City of Burlington Fire Marshal in interpreting fire code for campus activities and facilities. Actively engage in learning and practicing principles of social justice and inclusion, environmental sustainability and delivering great customer experience.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Bachelor’s degree in fire science or related discipline and four years of experience in fire and life safety management. NFPA Certified Fire Inspector or Certified Fire Protection Specialist. Experience in training and technical knowledge of fire protection/protection systems and fire alarms Experience with interpreting and applying NFPA codes as adopted by the State of Vermont and City of Burlington. National Incident Management System (NIMS) ICS-200 certification or higher. Effective oral and written communication skills required. Experience in leading work groups and continuous improvement programs required. Demonstrated ongoing commitment to workplace diversity, sustainability and delivering exceptional value and great customer service.

Desirable Qualifications Prior experience at a university or insurance company is desirable.
