Labcorp Technologist or Technologist Trainee- Molecular Infectious Disease - 1st Shift in Burlington, North Carolina

If so, LabCorp wants to speak with you about exciting opportunities to join our Molecular Infectious Disease team as a Technologist Trainee, Technologist or Sr.Technologist in Burlington, NC In this position you will work in a fast paced, customer focused, and challenging environment.

All of the tests performed in the Molecular Infectious Disease department utilize PCR based technology -- providing extremely sensitive and timely results to providers. The testing performed surrounds 3 main viruses -- HIV, Hepatitis C and Hepatitis B. Our staff also currently help to support labcorp's SARS-CoV-2 testing efforts.

The work schedule for this position will be 1st shift ( Sun- Wed) 6a-430p

Work Location: 1447 York Court, Burlington, NC


  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria

  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures

  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality

  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving

  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls

  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care

  • Evaluate raw and final data for accuracy; recognize and correct errors or unusual results

  • Provide guidance to technical staff with the analysis and interpretation of final results

  • Perform new test procedures and/or methods and provide feedback based on your findings

  • Assist with training and orientation of new employees as needed

  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures

  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary

  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed

  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment


  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or a related science (or 24 credits in Chemistry/Biology constituting a biological science major) as required by CLIA

  • Experience Requirements:

  • No experience needed at Technologist Trainee Level

  • 1 year experience required for Technologist level

  • 4+ years experience required for Sr. Technologist level

  • ASCP or AMT certification is preferred

  • Demonstrated success in clinical testing technical proficiency and scientific knowledge

  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of specific laboratory and/or department functions

  • Ability to exercise judgment to determine methods and procedures on new assignments

  • Proficient with computers and familiarity with laboratory information systems

  • High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment

  • Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen

  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
