SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS
*JOB TITLE: *Engineer 1 – Lead Engineer

*PAY RANGE: *Eng. I $58,400-73,000, Eng. II $71,200-89,000, Staff Eng. $79,600-99,500,Sr Eng. $80,600-107,500, Lead Eng. $84,800-113,000
*Scheduled Work Hours: *Monday - Thursday, 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Other hours as required)
*Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities: *
Perform independent reviews and analysis of industry operating experiences, reportable events, NRC issuance and other sources of plant operating experience information to identify areas for improving plant safety and operation.
Make detailed recommendations to requesting departmental, corporate and plant management for revised procedures, equipment modifications, maintenance activities or other means of improving plant safety and operation.
Determine equipment to be used and engineering procedures and applications to maximize system effectiveness and assure project engineering costs adhere to budget guidelines.
Apply engineering standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjust and correlate data, and recognize discrepancies in results to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory commitments and requirements.
Investigate and recommend corrective engineering actions to assure performance against published standards and codes as well as compliance with regulatory commitments and requirements.
Conduct computer simulations and transient and dynamic stability studies to evaluate plant response to assure the technical soundness of engineering programs.
Assist in cost reduction by adhering to project and departmental budget guidelines while maintaining the necessary quality of end results.
Interpret and apply regulatory documents to determine basis for technical specification, technical specification changes, design modifications and licensing issues.
Conduct feasibility studies and analysis of operational data gathered versus model predictions associated applying statistical analysis of reliability factors.
Provide technical support and engineering expertise for regulatory agency submittals, meeting and inquires.
Perform operational and safety review and evaluations as well as completed designs to select optimum design alternations.
Communicate project status to appropriate departments or personnel and advise others on engineering information relevant to all company and regulatory standards.
Perform and evaluate probabilistic risk of failures to determine minimal component system/plant risk to the public to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Evaluate, monitor or perform mechanical and electrical inspections and repairs as well as decontamination procedures to ensure system integrity.
Prioritize, assign and schedule engineering work activities as well as develop, monitor and review work packages and other engineering assignments completed by subordinate engineering staff.
Maintain surveillance of plant operation and the various activities to provide independent verification that all duties are performed accurately and in compliance of all regulations.
Develop and maintain standard analysis procedures and methods including recommending revisions to all procedures, to ensure compliance with WCNOC's license.
Complete special projects and perform other duties as assigned by supervision/management.
Education and Experience Requirements:
The Engineer I position requires a BS degree in Engineering.
The Engineer II position requires a BS degree in Engineering and two years relevant experience.
The Staff Engineer position requires a BS degree in Engineering and four years relevant.
The Senior Engineer position requires a BS degree in Engineering and eight years of relevant experience and registered engineering in training (EIT) or board recognized industry certification preferred.
The Lead Engineer position requires a BS degree in Engineering and twelve years of relevant experienceand a Kansas Professional Engineer License is preferred .
Relevant experience for these positions is defined as professional level experience in engineering, engineering support or nuclear plant operations and support. The incumbent must possess engineering expertise related to the general area of assignment such as electrical, mechanical, civil, nuclear, etc.
Curriculum must be accredited by the accreditation board for engineering and technology (ABET): Any other baccalaureate engineering curriculum that has not been accredited by ABET but has been evaluated and found to be of an equivalent standard that may be reviewed and accepted by the Kansas Board of Technical Professions is acceptable.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:
This position requires the ability to: read, analyze, and interpret the complex documents; respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints; make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, and/or boards of directors.
This position requires the ability to: comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory; work with concepts such as limits, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.
This position requires the ability to: apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems; deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases; deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

This position requires the ability to pass vision requirements associated with Company physical in order to read detailed engineering prints and drawings and inspect equipment installations and job sites.
This position requires the ability to work in a moderately noisy environment (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
