RedHat Junior Operating System Software Engineer - Databases in Brno, Czech Republic
The Red Hat Core-Services Engineering team is looking for a Junior Operating System Software Engineer with C or C++ skills to joins us in Brno, Czech Republic or remotely. You’ll need to have more experience with Python, Ruby, or Java and an interest in learning or improving your C or C++ skills. This is a great opportunity to learn a wide range of technologies and operating system principles. Thanks to the variety of tasks, it will be up to you what to work on each day. As a Junior Operating System Software Engineer, you will work with modern technologies like Linux containers, Red Hat OpenStack Platform, Red Hat OpenShift, or Kubernetes, all alongside some of the brightest developers in the open source industry. Your work will be visible worldwide. An example of our work can be found at github.com/sclorg. Part-time employment is possible with future extensions to full-time.
Primary job responsibilities
Develop, troubleshoot, and debug assigned components, e.g., PostgreSQL database server, and container images in supported offerings like Fedora and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
Collaborate with upstream community members of the assigned projects, other development teams in Red Hat, and the quality assurance (QA) team
Identify system deficiencies, conduct technical research and analysis, and recommend solutions or fixes
Take upstream projects and integrate them into the operating system using RPM technology
Work across project and technology boundaries to create integrated solutions based on open source projects
C or C++ development experience, or experience with Linux-based operating system administration
Good written and verbal communication skills
Desire to learn and solve various challenging problems
The following are considered a plus:
Knowledge of Bash, Python, Ruby, or Java
Solid understanding of operating system principles, including software packaging
Experience with debugging application problems, e.g., GDB
Experience with the open source development model
Practical experience with SQL databases or Linux containers
