SRI International Business Development Manager in Boulder, Colorado

Business Development ManagerBoulder, CO, Menlo Park, CA, Princeton, NJ, Remote - USAJob DescriptionSRI's Global Partnership (GP) team seeks to hire a Business DevelopmentManager to grow our contract R&D, Innovation consulting and technologytransition programs with industry, specifically in automation and sensingsystems. This position reports to the Vice President of Global Partnershipsand is part of a business development team that operates across manytechnology and business sectors. The successful candidate will workcollaboratively within the business development team, with SRI's Legal andIntellectual Property groups and will work closely with SRI's AdvancedTechnology Systems (ATS) research teams primarily in Menlo Park, CA,Boulder, CO and Princeton, NJ to identify, qualify, capture and managenew business opportunities with industry clients.The BD Manager role will be very hands-on, operating over a variety ofprojects that involve the identification of industry trends, marketrequirements, client needs and the development and transfer of advancedtechnology solutions across a variety of hardware and associated softwaresystems relating to robotics, automation, RF communications and sensing,space systems, radars, advanced materials and quantum devices.SRI is an independent, non-profit, R&D organization with a large basicand applied research portfolio across a wide range of scientific disciplinesassociated with information and computing, sensing and electronic systems,life sciences, and education research. SRI brings its innovations to themarketplace through a variety of channels including industry fundedprojects, technology licensing and startup ventures.Business Development Manager Duties and ResponsibilitiesA successful candidate will work across SRI to develop new business conceptsthrough direct interactions with external customers and internal researchteams.This versatile and forward-thinking individual must be highly committed andresults-oriented with the ability to convert abstract client needs intobeneficial business relationships.Participate as a key member of SRI's commercial strategy teams working incollaboration with SRI's Principal Investigators, research groups,Global Partnerships team and executive management to develop a growth strategywithin the designated sector(s). Creates and forecasts and maintainsshort- and long-term business development plans.Create and maintains a pipeline of opportunities and achieve contract bookingsquotas for industry-funded R&D services by identifying, qualifying, andsecuring business opportunities; coordinating business generationactivities; developing customized targeted sales strategies.Build and maintain client and partner relationships and leverage thoserelationships to secure new business.Understands client needs and SRI's offering solutions; answers potentialclient questions; coordinates responses to client requests for proposals(RFPs)Be an articulate, outgoing and motivating spokesperson for SRI and representSRI's overall R&D capabilities at relevant industry meetings and conferences.Keeps abreast of current technological developments in own area(s) ofspecialization as well as related fields.In coordination with SRI management and legal teams, negotiates contractterms and pricing. Assists in monitoring progress and quality of results.Communicates work status, concerns, and expectations about plans with taskleaders, SRI management, and the client.Demonstrate a high standard of ethical business and personal conduct throughdaily actions and maintains social, ethical, and organizational norms inconducting internal and external activities.QualificationsTechnical degree in engineering, physics, chemistry or related field.5+ years of sales, marketing or business development market experience inR&D, tech industry, startups and/or consulting is preferred.Otherrequirements include:U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency required.Experience with lead generation and prospect management a
