Job Description
The Director of the faculty and staff focused LGBTQIA+ center at Boston University will oversee a newly created office at Boston University focused on supporting LGBTQIA+ faculty and staff. The Director will be responsible for creating the new office, hiring and managing staff, developing and implementing programming, and engaging in institutional efforts to improve a sense of belongingness and connectedness among BU's LGBTQIA+ community. The Director will also work with stakeholders across the University and in the broader Boston community to advance the work of the center. The individual will develop structures and processes that allow for substantive input by community members and will advance a sense of collective engagement and action that engenders the community's sense of ownership and bolsters engagement. Further, when necessary and appropriate, the Director will partner with colleagues in Student Affairs to ensure that the work of the center is aligned with and/or complementary to work being done elsewhere on campus to support LGBTQIA+ students.
Required Skills
Keen understanding of and knowledge about issues impacting LGBTQIA+ communities, including being steeped in theory and current research and data
Experience developing new initiatives
Experience leading and managing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, preferably in a university setting
A sophisticated understanding of and approach to addressing climate and culture issues
7+ years of relevant work experience
Masters Degree from an accredited institution
Superb written and spoken communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills, including emotional intelligence and diplomacy
Strong program design skills
Strong facilitation skills
