American Express Analyst, Global Merchant Policy and Communications in Boston, Massachusetts

Description

The Merchant Policy Team creates and evolves merchant rules that impact the merchant experience, and, enables emerging models / products for the organization. Policy is a major driver of business and can have significant impacts to issuers, acquirers and merchants.

The team is a core enabler of many of the company’s Big Bet initiatives such as Debit and Emerging Models like Buy-Now-Pay-Later, while at the same time, the team is critically tasked with determining the key merchant pain points and creating merchant policy/rules to address those pain points.

This role will expose the analyst to global stakeholders including VPs. Reporting into a Policy Manager, the successful candidate will support the team to develop, publish and communicate policies globally working with colleagues across American Express, including Marketing, GMS Client Management, the General Counsel's Office and Global Servicing Network around the world. The role will focus on:

  • Policy Publication and Coordination specifically coordinating the policy edits and stakeholder governance processes,

  • Marketing and Training specifically supporting the execution of marketing collateral, creation of internal presentations and facilitation of training sessions, and

  • Data Analytics specifically developing analytics to support the business case for policy changes.

The successful candidate will:

Policy publication and coordination:

  • Facilitate exchange of policy edits between policy owners and external vendors

  • Prepare and lead governance presentations of policy materials for working members

  • Manage the budget and invoice tracking assigned to external vendors and facilitate payments

  • Coordinate publication timeline and stakeholder meetings

  • Ensure governance approvals are received and properly recorded

Marketing and Training:

  • Partner with marketing teams globally to execute the marketing plan on new policy development.

  • Support leader to ensure that internal stakeholders globally are aware and educated on policies.

Data Analytics:

  • Assist Policy Manager with data analytics and communicate insights.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • Strong project management and organizational skills to support leader in a variety of complex projects simultaneously.

  • Excellent relationship, collaboration/influencing skills with success working on multiple projects.

  • Communication skills: (1) ability to write clear and concise documents and prepare effective presentations in MS PowerPoint; (2) strong verbal communication skills with an ability to confidently explain policy and illustrate its impacts to both merchants and internal stakeholders; and (3) ability to tailor communications to specific audiences

  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and scope.

  • Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

  • Self-management in a virtual environment.

  • Willingness to occasionally take calls before or after hours.

  • Basic knowledge of payments and/or policy, a plus.

  • Willingness to work hard and be a part of a highly visible and high-performing team that is very collaborative and likes to have fun.
