Conduct analysis and development of next generation air-bearing designs for next generation products, which in turn enable lower active clearances. Perform analysis and development of numerical methods and computational tools used to model and design the next generation of recording heads including features used in heat-assisted magnetic recording hard drives. Engage in innovative computational techniques to couple structural and fluid dynamic simulations of the head-disk interface. Use different programming languages to create and maintain numerical solvers and mesh generators, some commercial (e.g., ANSYS). Develop more efficient numerical methods using reduced order methods and enable the use of parallel computing to speed up code timing and provide faster design feedback. Contribute to brainstorming new technical solutions and develop Seagate s intellectual property. Work closely with a cross-functional team of engineers representing all stages of our technology development from idea generation to failure analysis to product integration. Requires PhD or foreign equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mechanics, or a related field.
