PM Group Head of Architecture in Birmingham, United Kingdom

Due to internal re-organisation we are looking to appoint a new Head of Architecture for our UK operations where you will lead and manage the department and architectural delivery and execution of projects.

You will be expected to play a key role in contributing to the overall success of the UK design and multi-disciplinary project delivery services we provide our customers.

  • Take management ownership for the department including direct line management of the team including all HR issues, recruitment and development requirements.

  • Develop and deliver an Architectural Group Development Plan for the business aligned with the overall UK Business Strategy.

  • Develop the Architectural Group ensuring on-going personal development needs are identified, and that the team has the correct mix of staff and contract resources.

  • Manage, develop and mentor junior resources in the department including supporting the NEXT Graduate Programme.

  • Manage the team within the utilisation targets set by the UK annual budget.

  • Drive recruitment, team training and development.

  • Target flawless technical delivery, working within man-hour budgets set by projects. Ensure the highest quality of services and advice on all projects.

  • Identify areas for improvement/efficiency for the architectural delivery throughout the project phase so that we can deliver more efficiently and still maintain the requirements of our clients.

  • Support pre-sales and post business development activities including scoping, proposal / man-effort generation, resource allocation (select / manage the teams capability) client visits, change control etc.

  • This role will require a significant interface with your counterparts in the other group offices to share resources to maximize utilitisation and also to align working practices.

  • Support selected projects as Lead Architect, SME or Design Manager on selected projects and manage the team capability so they can match the requirements of projects.

  • Develop and manage the compilation of the Architectural Group master deliverable lists and adapt to suit individual project requirements.

  • Oversight of the progress and quality of the Architectural Group deliverables.

  • Ensure compliance with PM Group and/or customer procedures, organise appropriate reviews (including peer reviews) and approve project documents for issue.

  • Ensure that all projects comply with applicable local, international and client codes and standards.

  • Ensure the Architectural Group actively inputs into PM Group Technology initiatives and drives / delivers the Group strategy in terms of BIM or other applications.

  • Assist with developing project schedules and coordinate between all disciplines to ensure the design is in accordance with the agreed project schedule, track/report progress and implement man-hour controls.

  • A qualified Architect, which is strongly preferred.

  • Proven level of expertise in architectural design.

  • Project experience in Pharmaceutical, Food or Energy projects is preferred but as minimum experience in healthcare (such as operating theatres) or labs (including BSL labs) or healthcare/pharma research centres should be considered.

  • Experience of working in a multi-discipline team.

  • Experience with managing and leading architectural teams.

  • Good understanding, knowledge and appreciation of business demands and commercial awareness.

  • Professional approach and demeanour.

  • A strong ethical approach to safety, quality, environmental protection and business.

  • Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively with clients and peers at all levels.
