About this role

Our Customer Base Team has recently moved to an agile way of working, with a huge amount of investment being made in tools, data and new capability. This will enable us to be more personalised in all customer touchpoints and give us the ability to respond very quickly to changes in the competitive landscape and customer needs. To support the squads, we are building a Creative Team with the purpose of bringing agency-quality production in-house.

As a copywriter for BT Consumer, you’ll be the objective voice of our customers and always put their needs first when it comes to writing brilliant communication. Your mission will be to increase customer engagement by helping them understand important news, information, offers and updates in the simplest, smartest ways possible.

Working in agile teams, your skills and experience will enable you to influence and own our communication output. You’ll need to take briefs, write fresh copy, validate content, edit other people’s writing and give feedback to brief owners.

You’ll produce copy and content that builds our brand, delivers commercially, and creates a positive customer experience - working with every division and with a wide range of stakeholders, in a wide range of positions across Consumer.

You'll have the following responsibilities

  • Supporting the Base team execute their inbound and outbound marketing plans. Working closely with Squads to become an expert on key customer journeys

  • Make sure all your copy is in line with the BT or EE tone of voice

  • Read, understand and respond to briefs, asking the right questions and challenging anything that’s unclear or vague, making sure you have everything you need to deliver the requirements of the job

  • Write engaging, compelling copy from scratch, sourcing content and validating its accuracy, both factually and, where appropriate, legally

  • Bring clarity and confidence to other people’s copy, driving increased brand trust and an excellent customer experience

  • Work with designers to produce copy that works alongside imagery, photography and design

  • Manage stakeholder requirements from across BT, developing strong working relationships and helping people understand our copy standards, tone of voice, change processes, and expectations

  • Clearly articulate the benefits or drawbacks of copy changes, projects, and channel requirements, providing recommendations back into the process

  • Prioritise and manage all your copy and content requests

You'll have the following skills & experience

  • Strong copywriting experience, preferably within a client-side environment.

  • Good knowledge of best marketing practices

  • Design experience and the ability to curate brilliant design/content as well as copy would be a bonus

  • Experience of working in an agile environment would be good too

  • A natural love of words and ideas

  • Strong communication and storytelling skills

  • Experience of writing marketing copy for online and digital media

  • Ability to write to a brand tone of voice
