This role sits within Network Planning and Regulation Department of our Network Business.
The job holder will provide technical expertise and leadership in the design, management and delivery of key projects and schemes that enhance our networks ability to accommodate net zero aspirations and exceed our regulatory obligations.
The Lead Engineer will be responsible for the development of network designs, policies, standards, strategies etc. and representing SPEN at key forums.
Lead on the development of policies, standards, strategies and related specifications to meet the challenges associated with managing and preparing a network to meet net zero requirements. Incorporating industry best practice and the learning generated by innovation projects.
Develop close working relationships with internal and external partners to ensure that key projects and schemes are delivered efficiently, on-time and in line with the requirements of stakeholders.
Provides technical support and expertise to ensure the successful delivery / introduction of new solutions into the business, ensuring the needs of internal and external stakeholders are met and the resulting benefits can be tracked.
Effective Project Management / Hygiene activities to ensure relevant stakeholders are kept abreast of progress / issues.
Undertake robust network design to identify optimum solutions for the connection and management of Low Carbon Technology and other loads.
Identification of opportunities to maximise the benefits delivered to our customers, business and regulatory performance by emerging technology / solutions, including robust cost benefit analysis.
Dissemination of learning from projects, schemes, updated policies, processes to internal and external stakeholders, including key industry bodies and forums.
Contributes to wider business activities through provision of expertise.
Skills and Requirements
We are looking for candidates with experience ideally gained through operational, technical and commercial engineering roles within an Energy Network. To be successful in this role you will require / need to demonstrate:
A Degree in Engineering supported by post-training experience in an Electrical Engineering role.
An understanding of the issues impacting SPEN, particularly associated with the transition to Net Zero.
Knowledge and experience associated with network design philosophy and policies, asset management techniques and practices.
Knowledge of Energy Networks Health & Safety requirements and compliance.
Ability to develop and contribute to financial plans which are deliverable and maximise return.
Computer literacy – e.g. Microsoft Office suite, SAP
Ability to influence and collaborate with internal and external parties.
Analyse and evaluate a complex range of technical, regulatory, commercial and environmental factors in proposing innovative network developments that are efficient, co-ordinated and economic.
Ability to devise solutions to complex problems / challenges and applying innovative thinking where necessary.
Good communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to different audiences verbally and in writing.
Ability to coordinate and manage a portfolio of network initiatives being delivered by various business units.
What We Offer
This is a Permanent contract. Salary for this role will be from £48,500 per annum.
