We are currently seeking an EXPERIENCED Animal Biologist to work at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.

This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS/SERVICES. The contractor shall:

  • Create expression constructs in AAV or other vectors.

  • Transfect cell lines and mouse organs with expression vectors.

  • Isolate RNA and DNA from transfected cell lines of mouse organs.

  • Dissect organs of Corti for immunohistochemistry or other microscopic imaging.

  • Perform RNA-seq, ChIP-seq and ATAC-seq experiments and prepare sequencing libraries.

  • Maintain cell cultures as needed.

  • Dissect organs and prepare lysates for single-cell captures.

  • Manage a mouse colony (approximately 60 cages). Set up matings to maintain lines or generate specific genotype mice.

  • Maintain a database and notebook record of mice and matings.

  • Prepare analyses, reports and summaries for publication and presentation; participate in laboratory meetings.

  • Make regular presentations on new or improved techniques in DNA/RNA sequencing, as STOPS travel SOP allows.

  • Attend laboratory meetings and report on issues relating to GCBC, as STOPS travel SOP allows.

  • Maintain reagent supplies, order reagents when needed, keep a log of reagents purchased and associated CANs.

  • Maintain an organized and clean work environment; ensure that reagents are properly labeled.

  • Maintain proper techniques for the safe handling and disposal of reagents/chemicals.

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:

  • Master’s degree in Biology, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Life Sciences or a related discipline. Three (3) years of specialized experience plus a BA/BS degree is equivalent to a Master’s degree.

  • Minimum of six (6) years of related experience.

  • Knowledge of DNA analysis and sequencing/genotyping instrumentation and software.

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
