The HR Business Insights team at VMware provides both business and HR leaders with data-based insights to influence strategic decisions related to our most precious commodity: our talent. Our team’s mission is to use all available data at its disposal (from the business, HR, and external sources) to conduct in-depth research, with the aim of uncovering meaningful insights to better inform employee-related decisions and offerings which will, in turn, positively impact VMware’s bottom-line business success.
Job Role and Responsibility
Does the prospect of providing data-driven insight within a growing HR function excite you? We are looking for a Director, Strategic Reporting Solutions to join our HR Business Insights team. You will report to the leader of the HR Business Insights team and will manage the Strategic Reporting Solutions team.
Team management (20% of time)
Manage team of 3-4 reporting professionals as well as external vendors/consultants as required. Provide day-to-day direction and guidance, as well as set goals for team members’ career growth and development.
Oversee cross-training of all team members on key project work; provide back up for team members during times of high-volume projects.
Manage the travel and expense budget for the entire HR Business Insights team.
Strategy (20% of time)
Evolve and own the HR Business Insights reporting strategy and roadmap. In collaboration with the HR Leadership Team, HRIS, IT, Finance, and other stakeholders, review and adjust the roadmap regularly. Ensure ROI metrics are included in the framework and approach.
Project work & customer partnership (60% of time)
Meet regularly with key stakeholders inside and outside of HR to understand critical business needs and translate those needs into reporting requirements.
Design new reports and dashboards, as well as enhance existing reporting solutions.
Collaborate closely with IT to drive progress against the reporting project roadmap.
Network with other companies and professional organizations to stay abreast of reporting best practices.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a field that emphasizes analyzing, displaying, or reporting data (e.g., computer science, mathematics, engineering, economics, statistics).
10-15 years of progressive work experience
Extensive experience using data visualization platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, and Workday Prism.
Experience handling confidential and sensitive information.
Attention to detail that borders on obsessiveness, coupled with an ability to self-audit work to a very high degree of accuracy.
Ability to learn and adapt quickly in an ambiguous and unpredictable environment.
Ability to juggle multiple projects under tight deadlines.
Problem solver, able to troubleshoot issues independently or escalate when necessary, a strong sense of accountability, and sound professional judgment.
Ability to work autonomously, with minimal direction, as well as collaborate with others.
Extensive consulting experience; ability to quickly evaluate complex client issues and solve clients’ business challenges with analytic solutions.
Solid verbal and written communication skills; ability to articulate and distill complex issues to non-technical and senior audiences.
Deep understanding of broader business context, as well as intra- and inter-departmental functions and interdependencies.
Proven track record of promoting individual growth with direct reports.
Experience working in a corporate, high tech environment.
Proficiency with Excel (creating formulas, macros, pivot tables).
Experience applying and interpreting mathematical-based methodologies.
