Job Purpose:

To provide legal support to the Treasury and Trade Solutions (“TTS”) businesses for the EMEA region. The role is intended to cover the TTS Cash Management and Wholesale Cards businesses in EMEA.

Job Background/context:

The TTS Legal Department supports the TTS businesses and is made up of a team of lawyers and negotiators supporting Cash Management, Wholesale Cards and Trade based in London and Belfast.

The role will involve an active engagement with the business, principally out of the London and Dublin product centres, but there will also be daily interaction with the rest of the EMEA region.

The role will mainly involve in assisting the review of new laws and/or regulation that impact the EMEA TTS business and advising the business on the impact of such laws and regulation, including amending standard documentation to ensure it is in line with requirements and liaising with the Legal teams in the relevant EMEA countries in respect of same. In addition, the successful individual will work on reviewing/negotiating a broad range of standard and non-standard legal agreements across the Worldlink business within TTS, but must also be comfortable in negotiating more non-standard transactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing legal support to the TTS business especially in relation to the Worldlink business.

  • Advising on the legal and regulatory developments relevant to the TTS business.

  • Advising the TTS business in relation to new products and country expansions, including the drafting of new Product Agreements.

  • Advising the business on Bank policy matters.

  • Negotiation of product documentation in relation to non-standard transactions/negotiations for the above product area.

  • Co-ordinating multi-jurisdictional transactions.

  • Instructing external lawyers and acting as liaison between external advisers and the business.

  • Review of information provided by foreign legal counsel in relation to new products and the expansion of the business.

Development Value:

The successful candidate will be instrumental in providing legal support and gaining experience in a wide range of TTS products across a multitude of jurisdictions within the EMEA region.


  • Qualified lawyer or equivalent experience gained in private practice or in an in-house legal department.

  • Experience in general corporate banking and/or corporate legal work involving advisory work and transactions.

  • Knowledge of Cash Management and Wholesale Cards is of interest but not essential

  • Experience of cross border legal work helpful


  • Good communicator.

  • Practical approach to problem solving.

  • Appreciation of the commercial environment between Bank and customer.

  • Ability to manage an active case load and prioritise appropriately.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Flexible and adaptable.

  • Excellent IT skills – including use of Word and Outlook.


  • Strong academic qualifications.

  • Qualified English [or other common law jurisdictions] lawyer preferred due to number of English law agreements handled. However, exceptional candidates with the necessary financial services experience may be eligible to be considered for the position.

  • Experience as a trainee/junior lawyer in a commercial law firm and/or financial institution.


  • Ability to manage time effectively while working under minimal supervision

  • Sound judgment and decision making skills including ability to quickly assess points which are legal and those which are product or commercial

  • Cooperative and team oriented
