Upper Chesapeake Medical Center Medical Secretary - Harford Primary Care in Bel Air, Maryland
JOB SUMMARY: Under direct supervision of the Front Desk Supervisor and/or Office Coordinator, greets and directs patients and visitors effectively and courteously. Schedules appointments and collects medical records and billing information prior to the patient being seen by the physician. Answers phones, prepares or responds to patient messages to providers and other staff. Accurately collects and distributes medical information into patients’ charts. Monitors appearance of waiting room and notifies supervisor of emergencies in the waiting room area. Team member will at all times, respond to patients, visitors and co-workers in a pleasant, helpful and professional manner.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Education & Training: High school diploma or GED. AA degree or advanced education in medical field preferred.
Work Orientation & Experience: 1-2 years experience in a medical office setting with computer experience; general knowledge of medical terminology; prior experience with insurance verification and scheduling required. EMR experience preferred.
Skills & Abilities: Ability to: a) maintain appropriate, professional conduct and appearance at all times, follows office dress code consistently; b) complete work in an established time frame, seek appropriate tasks when primary tasks are completed or pace is slow; c) demonstrate willingness to perform other duties to assist the team effort for the benefit of the patients, physicians and fellow team members; d) consistently arrive at work on time and completes all tasks or arranges for coverage before leaving for the day or lunch; e) maintain desk and business areas in a professional, neat manner; f) maintain confidentiality with patients and team member information; g) ability to communicate effectively and professionally with team members, physicians, patients, customers, etc. and strong organizational skills; h)computer literacy to include word processing, database and spreadsheets software.
