Purpose and Essential Duties

The Engineering Director Directs, oversees, and utilizes functional authority for operation, planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of all projects or process-related activities of engineering design or commissioning. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Directs a design team of project managers, engineers, and technical staff in the development of building designs that support client requirement and schedule.

  • Directs a commissioning team of commissioning agents, and commissioning technicians to perform the commissioning team functions that support client requirement and schedule.

  • Delegates projects among engineering or commissioning staff according to specialized knowledge, skills and abilities; and consider project requirements.

  • Approves process specification and design or commissioning standards, and reviews engineering designs for accuracy and compliance.

  • Maintains a strong relationship with clients and vendors, and develops new and expanded business based upon successful delivery of existing projects.

This position is Full Time, Exempt, and reports to the VP of Engineering.

Required Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a 4-year accredited program. Acceptable Degree Alternatives: Engineering Technology / Construction Management Degree

  • Professional Engineering License

  • 5 years minimum experience as a Project Manager.

  • Alternative Minimum Qualifications: Must have a minimum of 15 years of experience as a Project Manager for Bernhard.

  • Commissioning Certification from a certifying agency, if directing the Commissioning Team.

  • Must be able to lead presentations for marketing and business development for projects.

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project experience.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Project Management Certification from a certifying agency (PMI)

Travel Requirements

  • Engineering Director is required to be able to travel up to 30%.

Physical/Work Environment Requirements

  • Engineering Directors must be able to lift up to 15lbs, sit at a desk for prolonged periods, and be able to attend job site meetings as well as walk job sites under construction.
