We are currently seeking a Laboratory Technician with the National Institutes of Health in Baltimore, MD.

TASKS. The contractor shall:
Work with NIA Core Lab (Clinical Core Unit) to store and distribute biological samples including blood, urine, DNA, RNA, tissue and saliva in the Sample Library for future scientific research.
Store new samples, update sample inventory, retrieve samples with proper authorization and maintain sample and database inventory; monitor overall sample inventory.
Maintain records of freezer assignment.
Manage and maintain below zero-degree temperature freezers and other sample storage and handling equipment; maintain accurate daily and monthly records as applicable.
Promptly report any issues encountered and their resolution to management.
Submit a monthly report to management on the last day of each month; notate the work completed daily, weekly and monthly.
Communicate with management and principal investigators on all Sample Library details regarding sample inquires and pull requests.
Monitor assigned repository projects including authorized sample pull requests, authorized sample destructions, sample consolidation, sample pull returns, sample information requests, sample inventory verification, and laboratory supply inventories. Inform management of status updates regarding projects.
Compose and edit Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the Sample Library at the discretion of management and in accordance with NIH standards and all applicable federal, state, local, and international regulations and guidelines.
REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Life Sciences or a related discipline.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a laboratory environment. Demonstrates experience in performing biological research. Demonstrates knowledge in managing and disposing of hazardous waste.
Experience working in a Biorepository and familiar with Biorepository practices.
