TEXAS WORKFORCE COMMISSION Investigator I-III in AUSTIN, Texas

The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), a Certified Best Place for Working Parents, is seeking Investigators I-III to join the Labor Law Department within the Regulatory Integrity Division (RID). This position is located in downtown Austin, next to the Texas State Capitol at 101 E. 15th Street. RID enforces all regulatory statutes within the jurisdiction of the agency.i The Texas Payday Law serves to protect employees who have not been paid earned wages and provides employers and employees a method of resolving wage disputes without the necessity of court action.iBenefits to working for TWC include:-Competitive starting salary $2,436.00 - $3,055.32. /month- Defined Retirement Benefit Plan- Optional 401(k) and 457 accounts- Medical Insurance - Currently, the state pays 100% of the health plan premium for eligible full-time employees and 50% of the premium for their eligible dependents. Eligible part-time employees get a 50% state contribution for themselves and 25% for their dependents. Employees pay the remainder of the premium by paycheck deduction before taxes are withheld.- Optional Benefits such as dental, vision, and life insurance- 8 hours' sick leave per month- 8 hours' vacation leave per month with potential to earn more with longevity- Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services- Additional benefits for active employees: https://www.ers.texas.gov/Active-Employees/Health-Benefits.iThe Investigators I - III perform entry-level to moderately complex (journey-level) investigative work.i Work involves conducting wage claim investigations by telephone while keying data of alleged violations of the Texas Payday Law. Works under close to general supervision, with minimal to limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.iGENERAL DUTIES:- Conducts investigations to determine if wages were properly made.- Evaluates and summarizes findings.- Examines, reviews, and audits wage records.- Investigates wage claim issues as needed.- Uses personal computer to data enter decisions, record decisions, and document case information to the Payday System.- Responds to oral and written inquiries from claimants, employers, and agency staff to provide customer support in a busy work environment.- Reviews investigative techniques and recommends improvements as appropriate.- Works quickly, performs multiple tasks, pays attention to detail, and adheres to work schedules and strict deadlines.- Works in a highly stressful environment.- Performs heavy telephone contact with public utilizing strong interviewing and communication skills.- Treats customers with courtesy and respect as well as handles hostile customers in a professional manner.- Performs tasks independently and organizes and prioritizes tasks.i- Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills.i- Meets strict deadlines.ii- May be called to serve as a witness and provide testimony in administrative and/or judicial proceedings.i- May participate in projects.- Performs other duties as assigned.iMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Investigator I: Successful completion of 90 semester hours of accredited college work.Investigator II: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.Investigator III: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university plus one year of full-time experience performing auditing or investigating work; or unemployment insurance claims examiner tasks; or gathering of information, interviewing, counseling or in the instruction, demonstration, and interpretation of policies in a public or private enterprise. Twelve semester hours of graduate study from an accredited college or university will satisfy the minimum qualifications.
