Help change lives at Abraxas Youth and FamilyServiSummaryThis position is responsible for administrating special education servicesincluding intake processes and testing, acting as a liaison with districtspecial education representatives and providing specialized instruction on oneor more subjects to clients that are designated as special education in orderto help them learn the subject matter and/or skills.Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssists Education Director in organizing and implementing a special educationprogram to manage a caseload of students including course objectives,curriculum and activities to meet the requirements of the state and schooldistrict while also attending to the individualized needs, interests, andabilities of clients.Manages special education components and clie nt file requirements for anyclient(s) that receive special education services per state/federallaw, state department of education requirements and contract expectations.Oversees client intake and special education planning to include IndividualEducation Plan (IEP) documents. Coordinates with school districts,parents, and external parties through meetings and document to transfer,create, update, discuss, and implement the client IEP.Assesses the educational status of clients on a regular basis through assignedlessons, homework and testing. Identifies any client educational issuessuch as learning disabilities, records results and provides progress reportsas required to inform stakeholders including the facility's treatmentteam, parents or guardians, school district, and other parties of eachclient's educational progress.Employs a wide variety of instructional methods, behavioral tools, andmaterials that are most appropriate for meeting standard operating proceduresand educational objectives that are outlined in the school curriculum.Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriateto the clients' maturity.Creates and maintains accurate client and administrative documents such asdaily attendance and grade books. Summarizes achievements in reports forassigned clients including attendance and behavior.Participates as an educational team member in coordination with the clients,staff, and school and represents the program in professional meetings,family meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.Coordinates classroom activities, which may include group meetings, fieldtrips, and assemblies.Minimum RequirementsThe following educational requirements are acceptable for this classificationincluding:BA/BS degree in related field in subject matter that is utilized forteaching experience, AND state certification (public (level I or II)or private) in special education. At least one (1) year experience inprovision of special education services and reporting requirements.Ability to work independently.Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret documents related torecreational activities/physical education, short correspondence, and memos.Ability to exercise discretion and use independent judgment in makingdecisions.Cu
