Professional Research Assistant

Nature of Work

The University of Colorado School of Medicine Department of Orthopedics has an opening for a full-time Professional Research Assistant (PRA). The PRA will provide both on-site and virtual support for orthopedic quality improvement programs at affiliated healthcare locations in the greater Denver metropolitan area.

Under the supervision of the Department of Orthopedics Quality Program Manager, the PRA will be a first point of contact for quality program support. Essential duties include providing technical support, training, and research/evaluation project assistance to medical providers and staff. Additional duties will include basic data management (data entry, data cleaning, merging, quality control, data curation) in electronic health record (EHR) and research data management systems, and daily monitoring and use of program support communication channels to ensure continuity of quality program services during business hours.

The PRA will ensure compliance with all internal and external policies and procedures that govern the department’s quality program systems. The PRA may also assist Department of Orthopedics faculty with virtual or on-site quality program events or stand-alone quality projects as needed.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Monitor and respond to quality program technical support queries by email and phone.

  • Provide virtual and on-site technical assistance and training on a web-based patient survey platform to faculty, staff, and affiliated personnel in the greater Denver metropolitan area.

  • Communicate with patients under the care of orthopedic providers about quality program participation and outstanding electronic surveys/tasks related to recent or upcoming appointments, procedures, or care milestones.

  • Monitor and report on quality program data compliance and process-improvement initiatives; immediately raise potential concerns with program managers/supervisors.

  • Create and maintain routine summary reports and templates for quality program manager/supervisors and project stakeholders.

  • Assist program stakeholders with new program services, features, or project set up and data collection.

  • Perform manual data entry support special projects / troubleshooting situations.

  • Calculate basic descriptive and inferential statistics and accompanying visualizations for program-related reports and special projects.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot program-related devices (iPads) deployed to participating healthcare sites.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $38,000 to $45,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range ( or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel freely on short notice to work locations in the greater Denver metropolitan area during standard business hours.

  • At least one year of experience providing end-user technical support or job training services in a healthcare, academic/educational, or research/scientific setting.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work with a great attention to detail on, and accountability for, assigned tasks.

  • Knowledge of good practices, planning resources, and decision-making strategies for managing and analyzing research and evaluation data.

  • Strong interpersonal skills: Ability to effectively foster and maintain trusted professional relationships with a diverse group of colleagues and healthcare patients.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft productivity software (Excel, Word, Outlook).

  • Strong command of the English language, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or coursework in medical terminology or basic anatomy and physiology.

  • Experience working in a healthcare/medical service environment.

  • Experience performing basic statistical analyses and visualizations (descriptive statistics, univariate tests, charts and graphs).

  • Experience with patient reported outcomes system, such as patientIQ.

  • Experience with human subjects research data management.
