University Health Care System Echocard Tlgst PRN in Augusta, Georgia


Under the general supervision of the CVP Lab Coordinator, the Echo Technologist is an individual qualified by professional credentialling and academic and clinical experience to provide non-invasive diagnostic cardiac services using ultrasound, stress, and other diagnostic procedures on patients of all age groups. The Echo Technologist will independently perform transthoracic echocardiography examinations on patients of all age groups, as well as neonatal and pediatric neurosonography examinations. Within scope of licensure, will assist with transesophageal echocardiograms, ultrasound guided pericardiocentesis, stress echocardiograms, and other cardiac stress tests, with and without nuclear imaging. The Echo Technologist will also assist with other non-invasive diagnostic cardiac procedures, including 12-lead ECG's, signal-averaged ECG's, cardiac holter monitors, cardiac event monitors, and ambulatory blood pressure monitors. In accordance with hospital policy and the SDMS Scope of Practice for the Diagnositic Ultrasound Professional -, the Echo Technologist will "perform patient (evaluations); acquire and analyze data obtained using ultrasound and related diagnostic technologies; provide a summary of findings to the cardiologist to aid in patient diagnosis and management; use independent judgement and systematic problem solving methods to produce high quality diagnostic information and optimize patient care." Performs other related patient care and non-patient care duties. Night and weekend call is required.


EducationAS degree in Cardiovascular Technology or Ultrasound Technology preferred. A graduate of an accredited CVT School Echocardiogram Program with documented clinical training.-A degree in-other related healthcare field will be considered. Non-degree applicants may be considered with minimum 3 years documented experience in echocardiography.Licensure/CertificationRDCS or RCS required. RDCS preferred. Registry eligible candidates will be considered for full and part-time positions. Must obtain registry within 6 months of hire into echo technologist position.BLS required.ACLS preferred.ExperienceOne year echocardiography experience preferred.One year echocardiography experience required for PRN technologists.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge and demonstrated skills in excellent customer service.High level of interpersonal skills in order to effectively communicates with patients, families, visitors, team members, physicians, and other hospital personnel with whom daily interactions take place.Demonstrates ability to think critically and prioritize multiple responsibilities to meet the needs of the patients and the department.Demonstrates ability to function effectively under stress and respond appropriately in compromising or emergency situations.Demonstrates ability to analyze patient information and evaluation in order to develop an appropriate procedure plan for the diagnostic procedure.Demonstrates strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology, as well as the diseases and health care needs of the patient population served.Demonstrates competency in performance of echocardiography procedures.Demonstrates and adequate knowledge of cardiac rhythms to perform related cardiac diagnostic procedures.Demonstrated traits of initiative and dependability required.Philosophy of health care services is compatible with that of the mission of University Hospital.Physical DemandsStanding for long periods of time (8 to 12 hours)Walking for long periods of time (8 to 12 hours) to include moving about the work area, hospital and/or campus as neededSitting for extended periods (8 to 12 hours)Must be able to bend, stoop and reach/lift above your headSight: must be able to read documentation in a variety of formats such as items in print or electronically. For HCP must be able to feel for pulses, skin temperature, and other patient conditionsOlfactory: HCP need to be able to smell disease-specific smellsHCP should not manually lift (including transfer, reposition, or move) patients who weigh greater than 35 pounds. The appropriate safe patient handling device will be used, except in emergency situations (life or death situations where delay in obtaining and using the safe patient handling equipment may be detrimental to the patient).
