Norfolk Southern Windows Application Support Engineer in Atlanta, Georgia


Job Description

The successful candidate will become a member of the Integration Services team within the Norfolk Southern Information Technology Operations Department. The candidate will be responsible for the support and engineering of custom and COTS applications running on Windows Server. Candidate must have strong hands-on experience with Windows Server 2008/2012/2016 and application upgrades. In addition the candidate must be well rounded, possess maturity, vision, and a depth of experience that allows for grasping of issues quickly and making educated, critical judgments/decisions in the absence of complete information. This candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced 24x7 environment with on-call duties as required and must possess the ability to work with a diverse, high-performance team.

This position is in our mid-town Atlanta office location.


4-yr College degree (in Computer Science, MIS, or related field) is desired


4+ years of experience supporting Windows Applications in a corporate environment.

Required skills

• Windows Server 2008/2012/2016

• Intermediate scripting skills (PowerShell/VB Script)

• Excellent writing skills

• Excellent communication and listening skills

• Advanced application and OS troubleshooting and analytical skills

• Expert in Microsoft IIS and web application support

• Strong experience supporting and troubleshooting .NET applications

• Experience supporting highly available applications using Microsoft Clustering and network load balancing

Desired skills

• Experience with implementing infrastructure supporting application containers

• Experience with implementing automation to enable agile development

• JBoss

• Microsoft FTP Server and/or GlobalScape Enhanced File Transfer

Travel Required: 0 - 2 Days per Month
