Home Depot Senior Tax Accountant - Tax Technology in Atlanta, Georgia

POSITION PURPOSE

Tax Technology and Transformation position is responsible to make an impact of existing and emerging technology, including driving efficiencies to create a cost-effective tax function and the understanding how to make data an asset. The underlying objective of the combined offerings is to help the tax department navigate the digital age of tax transparency, alongside new trends in tax compliance and tax audit methods.

Serve as the change agent to drive tax technology initiatives and improvement. Partner and collaborate with all functions in tax department (tax provision, tax compliance, indirect tax and tax controversy) and greater finance organization to implement technology and data solutions. Serve as principal contact on one or more projects with finance innovation, SAP S4 and business partners. Engage and implement solutions for ensuring the accurate and timely filing of tax returns, and own the tools and solutions like one-source, S4 and ETL tools.

Tax Technology and Transformation comprises the following services:

• Digital tax transformation

• SAP tax integration

• Tax applications as a service

• Tax data and improvement

• Tax analytics and reporting enhancements

• Emerging tax technology, including robotic process automation, artificial intelligence, blockchain, cloud solutions, data lake development and business intelligence innovation

• Custom tax technology application development and deployment

• Tax technology strategy and road maps

• Direct and indirect tax systems implementation and configuration

• Post-transaction (M&A) tax function operational services

• Tax operating model transformation, including process improvements, risks and controls

• Tax function assessments

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • 80% Tax Planning, Accounting, Research, Compliance, and Audit Defense as needed to meet the goals of the Department. May serve as principal contact on one or more projects with governmental officials, outside counsel, and business partners. May lead or participate in special studies to determine tax implications of company operations. May be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely filing of tax returns, and for the accurate statement of accounting reserves, including FAS 109 and FIN 48 where applicable. May serve as liaison between SSC and subsidiary businesses in the US and internationally.

  • 10% Participation on cross-functional teams as a subject-matter expert

  • 10% Coaching and mentoring of associates in the department

NATURE AND SCOPE

Reports to Sr. Tax Manager

No associates report to this role on a permanent basis, but requires the leadership of a work group: assign and review work, train and contribute to performance appraisal (but not hiring, firing or disciplinary action).

Environment:

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Travel:

Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be eighteen years of age or older.

Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Additional Minimum Qualifications:

Education Required:

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 2 years

Physical Requirements:

Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Additional Qualifications:

Demonstrate technical tax skills appropriate for the years of experience in the one or more tax disciplines. Demonstrate leadership and interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage and implement multiple complex projects, people management, and communications to both technical and non-technical audiences. Proven analytical and problem resolution skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Information Systems, Accounting, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or a related field

  • 5 years of related work experience preferred

  • CPA license or membership in a state bar or approved technical certification

  • Strong interest in technology and its use in business processes

  • Excellent communication and business writing skills

  • Strong interest in problem solving and an entrepreneurial approach to work

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with exceptional client-serving consulting skills

  • Demonstrated ability to capture and synthesize business requirements

  • Ability to, mentor counselees, influence without authority and manage client-serving business

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully sell and deliver large enterprise programs

  • Broad understanding of tax accounting and major tax processes

Ideally, you should also have at least one of the following:

• Experience implementing third-party direct or indirect tax systems (such as all ONESOURCE products, Sovos, Vertex, Avalara, etc.)

• Experience defining data and reporting needs for a tax department

• Enterprise resource planning (ERP) experience, including SAP S4 Hana

• Experience managing large, multidisciplinary projects that impact tax (e.g., ERP implementations, tax co-sourcing engagements, finance transformations)
