Description:

Performs the below duties within BioProcess Science with minimal supervision: 1) Is responsible to assist in the initiation and to completion of customary procedures via current documentation guidelines in transition of new R&D projects to operations units in an efficient manner, 2) Is responsible to Provide assistance in development of process(es), optimization of process(es), confirmation of process(es), validation and manufacturing of qualifying and pre-licensing serials, 3) Is responsible to Communicate work orally and in writing by treating reports and data with a high level of integrity and ethics and can complete roles and responsibilities as a Sub-Team member, 4) assist in improving consistency, stability and yields.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operate in a compliant manner at alltimes with respect to documentation guidelines and current SOP’s related toexperimentation, reporting data and training.

  • Write protocols, conduct experimentsand generation of reports for studies and treats all data with a high level ofaccuracy, integrity and ethics.

  • Assist in the transfer and scale upof new processes from Development to operations units by assisting in thedevelopment, optimization and confirmation from small to large scale.

  • Assist in optimizing currentprocesses by conducting experiments to evaluate different growth parameters,medium components and new equipment.

  • Assist in setting up, operation andvalidation of new equipment.

  • Ensures maintenance of equipment andit is kept in operational status.

  • Assist in developing and optimizinglyophilization cycles for new products from development to production freezedryers.

  • Perform all other duties asassigned.

Requirements:

Scientist II, BioProcess Science –

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accreditedinstitution in a relevant scientific discipline (Biochemistry, Engineering, andBiopharmaceuticals) is required with two to three (2 – 3) years relevantexperience preferred or a Master’s degree from an accredited institution in arelevant scientific discipline and relevant experience preferred.

  • Ability to operateinstrumentation/equipment and learn new technology and concepts.

  • Concise and accurate reporting oftechnical data and information.

  • Must have basic lab skills,preferred experience with bacteria, viruses and cell culture.

  • Basic understanding of processesrelated to bioreactor/fermentation and lyophilization.

  • Hands on experience with formulationof biological products and operation or reactors and cell culture equipment.

  • Ability to troubleshoot problems andtake corrective actions to solve the problem.

  • Statistical analysis of dataexperience is preferred.

  • Assist more experienced or higherlevel scientists in experimental designed to enhance and/or current processes,investigation of problems related to biological products, and to develop new orimprove existing production processes.

  • Hands on assistance will be requiredfor both small scale and large scale bioreactor/fermentor processes.

Scientist III, BioProcess Science –

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accreditedinstitution in a relevant scientific discipline (Biochemistry, Engineering,Biopharmaceuticals) is required with five to eight (5 -8) years of relevantexperience preferred or a MS from an accredited institution in a relevantscientific discipline with two plus (2+) years of relevant experience preferredor, PhD from an accredited institution in a relevant scientific discipline withrelevant experience preferred.

  • Must have the ability to operate andtrain team members on current instrumentation/equipment and learn then trainnew technology and concepts.

  • Concise and accurate reporting oftechnical data and information.

  • Must have basic and advanced labskills, experience with bacteria, viruses and cell culture.

  • Understanding of processes relatedto bioreactor/fermentation, down-stream methods and lyophilization.

  • Hands on experience with formulationof biological products and operation of reactors and cell culture equipment.

  • Ability to troubleshoot problems andtake corrective actions to solve the problem.

  • Statistical analysis of dataexperience utilizing Statistical software.

  • Lead (with management alignment) andassist higher level scientists in experimental designed to enhance and/orcurrent processes, investigation of problems related to biological products,and to develop new or improve existing production processes.

  • Leading team members and hands onassistance will be required for both small scale and large scalebioreactor/fermentor processes, down stream processes and lyophilizationprocesses.

Physical Demands / Surroundings (forboth II and III):

  • Lifting, carrying, pushing orpulling up to 50 pounds occasionally

  • Frequent periods of sitting,walking, and standing

  • Occasionally must climb stairs orladders, balance, bend or stoop, crouch or squat

  • Occasional low level work, finefinger dexterity/ including grasping or pinching required

  • Writing and use of a computerkeyboard frequently

  • Occasional use of personalprotective equipment

Visual / Hearing Demands (for both IIand III):

  • Color vision and depth perceptionrequired.

  • May require extended hours at acomputer screen.

  • Must be able to read electronicdocuments of all types.

  • Hearing acuity required.

EligibilityRequirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in theUnited States without restriction.

  • Must bewilling to submit to a background investigation, including verification ofyour past employment, criminal history, and educational background.

  • Must be willing to take a drug test andpost-offer physical (if required)

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
