Senior Software Quality Assurance Engineer and Tester

Description:

Role Description/Responsibilities: MAG has an opportunity for a qualified Software Quality Assurance Engineer in support of the Department of Homeland Security. The successful candidate will function as part of an Agile Sprint team in support of mission critical immigration processing and screening. Members of the Sprint team are responsible for the design, development, testing, and deployment of software systems based on user stories and epics. A high degree of autonomy and responsibility for the functionality and quality of the resulting systems is incumbent on the team. Members work with a 7-12 member team and work in 2-4 week sprints. The Senior Software Quality Engineer is responsible for test strategy, development, and execution of software test plans in order to identify software problems and their causes. General responsibilities include: • Development and implementation of efficient and effective testing strategies, test conditions and test scripts for projects • Work in both a legacy data center and a cloud development environment. • Ensure appropriate testing coverage and requirements traceability through the creation, implementation and enhancement of comprehensive test plans, test cases/user stories, test steps and test automation • Define clear expectations for all testing tasks, including inputs and outputs • Implement test tools to support automation and performance testing • Develop and execute test plans, test cases, scripts, and creating test data for Agile Software Development team; including functional, integration, regression, data integrity and stress testing as well as assisting with user acceptance • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including successful outcomes of achieving completed user stories and associated test criteria • Identify gaps and deficiencies in business requirements, technical specifications, designs and testing documentation for completeness and testability • Track defects and reporting key metrics for proactively identifying areas for improvement • Coordinate the setup of test environments for all planned test execution activities • Decompose requirements into detailed test cases for functional and regression test execution • Facilitate effective interaction and coordination between government Project Leads • Identify resource constraints and other potential schedule issues and risks • Implement testing and configuration management methodologies to support continuous integration • Direct and mentor less experienced test engineers

Post-Covid work location is Arlington, Virginia with allowance for part time telework.

Required Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree with 5 to 10 years of relevant test experience in an Enterprise IT environment • Proficiency testing backend systems (Unix or SQL) • Proficiency with SQL including the ability to create queries to validate data integrity and other data constraints • Experience with Java or C++ • Proficiency in a scripting language • Proven experience testing in Agile Software Development environment

Desired/Preferred Skills: • Quality Assurance Institute (QAI) Certified Software Test Engineer (CSTE) certification (or achieved within 6 months after contract award) • Understanding of software testing types and methods to support Agile Software Development • An active DHS clearance is required (ICE, CBP, USCIS or HQ). Job offer is contingent on candidate’s ability to obtain clearance.
