Arete Associates Data Specialist in Arlington, Virginia
Areté, an employee-owned company, is a growing research and development firm recognized for contributing to national security objectives by supplying innovative solutions to challenging technical problems faced by the United States. We have an immediate opening for a Data Specialist reporting to the Principal Data Scientist. This is a non-exempt non-supervisory full-time position. The position can be based in either our Arlington, VA or Longmont, CO offices.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining continually growing datasets and processing products from deployed systems in an organized database to enable easy access by other Areté employees and formulating database query and retrieval scripts. Will perform data processing tasks and generate material for associated analysis. Identify follow-up actions based on processing results. Assist in evaluating algorithm performance on historical datasets whenever there is a proposed update.
Performs programming tasks to enable organization, maintenance, formatting, and understanding from an ever growing repository of technical data (video, environmental, etc.) from deployed technical systems and field tests.
Assists senior staff in analysis of data and algorithm development by preparing briefing material that summarizes results, hand-truthing data sets, reprocessing historical and regression datasets to test stability and performance of proposed code updates for real-time system.
Produces routine scientific documentation, monthly reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics); may perform basic programming tasks.
Relies on general instructions to perform specific assignments that are selected from a variety of established procedures.
Runs, organizes, and records simulations set up by senior staff, monitor the output of the deployed system and document the occurrence of specific events.
May use cluster computer systems to run multiple large data processing jobs via a remote submittal process from desktop PC.
May be required to assist in field experiments with the potential for some travel.

Associates Degree with 3 + years of experience; or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Highly organized and self-motivated.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Proficient in MS Office Suite
Strong computer skills with an understanding of data administration and knowledge of a scripting language.
Analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving skills.
Ability to prioritize workload.
Must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs. over unimproved terrain.
