This Process Engineer Lead will influence & serve as a change agent working with the engineering team and production/operations to develop and improve Saint-Gobain’s plastics extrusion manufacturing by maximizing process efficiencies, production yields and quality while minimizing waste and cost.
The Process Engineer Lead (internal title Process Engineer II) identifies and recommends changes or upgrades to equipment, work methods and practices, or other aspects of the process to improve efficiency and utilization of resources including labor, energy and raw materials. Identifies process bottlenecks and devises solutions to resolve.
The incumbent provides engineering support to maintain, evaluate and improve processes in a continuous and complex manufacturing environment. Provides support to Production to ensure they accomplish production goals. Communicates and collaborates with supervisors, managers, and operators to continually improve manufacturing processes by minimizing waste, while still maintaining quality and safety.
Prepare evaluations of and justifications for the procurement of new equipment through the capital appropriations process (CAPEX).
Collaborates with team and stakeholders to develop equipment URS/FRS.
Leads the commissioning and validation of new equipment.
Ensures project deliverables fall within the applicable scope, budget, and meet the project deadline. Collaborates and coordinates with other departments to ensure all aspects of each project are identified and met.
Process Development, Support and Improvement:
Provide daily support of production issues through troubleshooting and problems solving.
Continuously improve existing manufacturing processes or develop new ones utilizing scientific principles and best practices that support operations and drive the facility toward standardization and optimal efficiency utilizing WCM methodology.
Select and implement new equipment and technologies to support processes improvements through Industrial Efficiency Pillar Activities.
Develop manufacturing plans and timelines for the support of technology transfers and new product launches.
Collaborate with R&D, Operations to coordinate Pilot Production Runs, conduct production readiness reviews (PRR) and support technology transfer to and from the site.
Develop and execute Process Validation protocols for process development.
Conduct capability studies or feasibility studies in support of new business opportunities and customer needs.
Lead and support Quality complaint investigations to identify the root cause of non-conformances and implement measures and controls to eliminate.
Collects and interprets critical process and equipment data in support of projects, trials and studies and validation protocol development.
Understands and Develops process flow diagrams associated equipment operation and the manufacturing process
Develops Standard Operating Procedures in support of the release of the equipment, process or system to manufacturing
Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline required.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in plastics extrusion processing, equipment and tooling.
High level of material knowledge, specifically thermoplastics required.
Working knowledge with CAD/CAM software.
Ability to think strategically and to plan creatively to accelerate project timelines.
